Logan and Lauren--A 2014 Holiday Special--A stand alone short story
EXCERPT With the contractor gone, Logan turned back to Lauren, who was avoiding eye contact with him as she wiped the dust from her hands onto the back of her blue jean shorts. Shorts, for god’s sake . . . which she’d probably put on that morning, not giving a single thought to the strange man she was about to let enter the house. This just kept getting worse and worse; Logan felt his temperature kick up another notch as disbelief at her actions held him in its grip. Did she have to have such a trusting nature? Would she never learn? Did she think the world was one huge, safe playground? Somewhere in the furthest recesses of his mind, the knowledge that he wasn’t giving her enough credit entered his head; his wife was incredibly brilliant and capable, but he refused to allow the thought to soothe him. He was angry, probably more angry than he’d ever been in his life, and the reason was because she had scared him half-to-freaking-death, and that was the only thing he could concentrate on at the moment.
While he held himself still, trying to breathe evenly, trying to get his raging emotions under control, he ran his gaze over her, up and down, just to make sure she was all in one piece.
Her tongue shot out to lick her lips and despite his anger, he felt a bolt of white-hot lightning pierce his guts. He could clearly see that she knew he was angry; her lips quivered before she spoke. “Hi, babe . . . you’re home early.”
Ahhh…so his little wife was feeling a bit apprehensive at this point and well she should be. His lips flattened as he took a single step toward her. “Sure am. What ‘ya doing, hon?” he spoke the words way too innocuously, allowing his tone to ring with sarcasm.
“N-nothing.”
He took another two steps forward and she quickly stepped back, bumping the back of her head on the slanted beam behind her. He winced for her and came to a halt; no matter how furious he was, he didn’t want her to hurt herself. “It didn’t look like ‘nothing’, babe,” he replied slowly.
“No, it’s just the . . . just the—” her words trailed off as she motioned behind her toward where she’d been on the floor only moments ago.
Logan didn’t take his eyes from her to see what she might be indicating. “Just the what?”
She shook her head, as if she had no idea what to say.
He took a deep breath and blew it out. “Lauren. Come here.”
She glanced away before looking back at him. “No, I’m good.”
At her denial, he felt his insides electrify with aggression, but he attempted to keep a cool head, even as the heated blood roaring through his veins reminded him he was on a short leash. “Come here, baby.”
She licked her lips. “Are you mad?”
He took another slow, deep breath. Yeah, he was mad. “Why would I be mad?” he asked a little too sarcastically as he placed his hands on the rafter above his head, feeling his biceps bulge against his short-sleeve t-shirt.

Temptation in Texas A Christmas Special eBook Lynda Chance

I have no idea why this book has such high ratings. They must have read something completely different than I did. As far as I'm concerned; the only way to describe this man is one sick SOB. I love a good Alpha type man, but this guy was way, way over the top. He acted more like a dictator than a concerned, protective husband, if you ask me. I didn't like the way he treated her, talk down to her, and totally disrespected her in every way possible. Then again; I didn't think much of her for letting him get away with it. Heck, she even got turned on by the ruthless way he treated her. IMO- that makes her just as sick as he is.

It's just a good thing this way free, even so....it's an hour of my time I'll never get back.

Temptation in Texas A Christmas Special eBook Lynda Chance Reviews

If you want a novella that is about sex, and not much of a story - this may be for you. For those of us who want romance with a little spice, this isn't for you.

I am not going into the premise of the story, as others have, but the man has anger and jealousy issues.

I haven't read any other books by this author, and will not be ordering any. I didn't feel a connection to this couple, so it was hard to like this novella. (ljb)
I do not recommend this book. It is part of a book. The man is too controlling shouting and screaming while she sits back and takes it. In one sex scene he is trying to show her what would happen if she would let a stranger in and he rapes her, so he starts raping her. It's all sex. I would not buy the beginning or the ending of this book. It is degrading to women. And anyone who has been through it. Just for this book alone I would not buy any more books from this author.
I got this mainly to satisfy my curiosity because of conflicting reviews. Although I get the alpha male, this borders on abuse.. this book is the beginning of domestic abuse and the reason why people get protective orders. If the author doesn't realize how many relationships have begun as "simply" as the ones in her book and then turned violent, then she has her head in the clouds. Don't get this book; it is disrespectful of all women who have been in an abusive relationship
I am not a reviewer who gives out 5 star reviews when they aren't deserved but it sure is in this book. Even if you have not read any of the rest of the stories about this couple you can appreciate this story. In this short story Lauren is trying to come up with the perfect Christmas present for Logan. Logan has been out of town for 4 days and all he can think about is his wife. Logan is what Lauren calls a 21st century Neanderthal man. Logan knows he has jealousy issues when it comes to his wife but he can't help himself any man who looks at her just winds him up but she is the only one to calm him down. This is another amazing hit by this author, it is short but it packs a lot into this short story. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
Thank you Ms. Chance for the lovely Christmas gift of Temptation in Texas A Christmas Special! You make your fans feel special by taking the time to write this short steamy story of Logan and Lauren latest bit of crazy.

For anyone unfamiliar with Lauren and Logan's love story, I highly recommend purchasing Pursuit (Logan and Lauren's full love story from the beginning) to fully understand and appreciate their special brand of crazy love before reading A Christmas Special. Pursuit will help put Logan's way over the top attitude and Lauren's odd response in context.
This whole story was the man saying F### with every thought, raping and manhandling his wife while she was supposedly loving it. It was sick and I couldn't even read it all. As I skimmed the pages wanting to get past the Neanderthal, the story ended. That was the whole story, just this out of control, jealous man excusing his behavior and the spineless wife who took it. By the way, the only thing Christmas had to do with the story is the wife was trying to get an estimate for a redo of the attic for the Neanderthal' s Christmas present. Oh I guess I should have said "spoiler alert" since I just told you the whole story, sorry but at least you didn't waste your valuable time on this so called book!

One review I read said the wife did stand up for herself. Her uttered words of "don't talk to my like a child" certainly didn't mean she stood up for herself. This author should be embarrassed to put her name to this work, not because of her writing skill, but because where did this story come from in her mind. Is this how she is treated and thinks it is normal? Questions do arise!
Okay. So if you are like me, you probably read the bad reviews as well as good ones to decide if this novella is worth reading. And let me tell you, it is. I don't want to say that the bad reviews are wrong, seeing that some people view things different. In my opinion, however, this novella was NOT degrading to women. First of all, a woman does not need to be some wise-cracking smart ass to be strong or to respect herself. And, as for me, I'm getting pretty tired of those authors who don't know how to show chemistry between their characters without them fighting all of the time. That's not entertaining to me. It just gets annoying. Like it or not, not every female character, or woman in general, is going to have the same "firecracker" personality. And that's okay. And although Lauren did appease Logan during his irrational behavior, she was in no way his doormat, which was shown numerous time when she tells him not to speak to her like a child. So she did not just sit there and take it like other reviewers are saying. She defended and respected herself like every woman should. Regardless, the author writes a female character who loves a man for who he his, but who also knows how to respect herself. And also, if she enjoys his behavior and the extremely hot, intense sex that follows, then who are we to say it's wrong? I agree with the other reviewers that, if you have not read Pursuit, Lauren and Logan's full story, I would recommend reading it before you completely write off this couple.
